James P. Holland, New President of Johns Hopkins HealthCare
Johns Hopkins Medicine welcomes James P. Holland as the new president of Johns Hopkins HealthCare. Holland assumed the role effective Sept. 30, 2019.
Holland brings significant experience and a strong record of success in the managed care industry. He previously served as the vice president for alliance business with Anthem, Inc., a national health benefits company. In this position, Holland led the development and management of multistate government program partnerships, including joint ventures with providers and insurers. During his eight years with Anthem, Holland also served as vice president for product development, responsible for new capabilities and ACA market entry.
“James has a stellar track record in the managed care industry,” says Paul B. Rothman, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. “He is the perfect person to lead Johns Hopkins HealthCare, and will play a key role in moving us forward as we continue our work providing high-quality, cost-effective care.”
Holland’s appointment was announced in an email to faculty and staff from Rothman, Kevin W. Sowers, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., president of Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Robert Kasdin, senior vice president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer for Johns Hopkins Medicine. Holland’s predecessor, Patty Brown, retired in June.
“James has extensive experience with successfully partnering across large organizations and geographic regions,” says Sowers. “This will make him a great collaborator in driving success.”
Through his new role, Holland oversees all aspects of Johns Hopkins HealthCare, which develops and manages medical care contracts with organizations, government programs and health care providers for more than 350,000 plan members. Health plans under Johns Hopkins HealthCare include Priority Partners Managed Care Organization, Johns Hopkins Employer Health Programs, Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan and Johns Hopkins Advantage MD.
“We are excited to have James Holland join our leadership team,” Kasdin says. “He is the right person at the right time for Johns Hopkins HealthCare and for Johns Hopkins Medicine.”
Holland earned his bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Holland will be joined by his spouse, Shawn, and two daughters.
