The 31st annual MIX 106.5 Radiothon last week raised $1,423,688.31 for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The total was announced on Mix 106.5 on Monday, Feb. 24. This year’s amount brings the grand total of funds raised to more than $25 million since the event began in 1990 — and sets a new record for the most funds raised by a single radio station in one year during a radiothon in the U.S

“We are so thankful for the generosity of the listeners and callers, as well as MIX 106.5, our volunteers and staff who helped make this event such a success,” says David Hackam, M.D., Ph.D., co-director and pediatric surgeon-in-chief of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Funds raised during the annual two-day broadcast are used toward the purchase of lifesaving medical equipment, to support patient care, fund research, develop innovative tools and programs, and bring toys, books, games and art supplies to patients.

“Children who are coping with difficult illnesses often do not feel like normal children,” says Tina Cheng, M.D., M.P.H., co-director and pediatrician-in-chief of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. “Pediatric patients are going through lifesaving surgeries, chemotherapy, testing and much more. This funding will help our providers and staff provide world-renown pediatric care and also help our pediatric patients feel like children at a time and in a place where it is anything but normal.”

While MIX 106.5 has ended its broadcast, those who wish to pledge their support can still do so at hopkinskids.org.
