What Our Employees Say About Delivering Exceptional Patient Care

When The Johns Hopkins Hospital receives national recognition such as being ranked on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll, it’s important to note that such achievements are not the result of one individual, but are due to the efforts of the entire team. From clinicians to our support staff, to others who are more behind the scenes, we all play a part in providing the very best care possible for our patients. A few of these employees took a moment to share what they do to make a difference for patients every day.

Helen Jones, Environmental Care Associate

My job is about the patients, their health and safety. I see that their rooms are clean and sanitary, and dust-free. Sometimes during my break, I’ll stick my head into a room to see how a patient is doing, sit with them or watch a movie. The majority of my family was born here at Johns Hopkins, and I always look at the patient as if they were a family member or me.

Errol Bush, General Thoracic Surgeon

I love lung transplantation. When you see someone come to the hospital critically ill, and the next day after a lung transplantation they can have a breathing tube out and not require any oxygen — that is a fantastic experience to be a part of.

Jason Wheatley, Clinical Social Worker

The possibility of transplant is an incredibly frightening and stressful time. I feel confident that when I speak to a patient about their treatment options, especially lifesaving ones, that every member of my team is going to work their hardest to make sure everyone — no matter where they come from or how they got to us — has the best possible health care that makes them thrive.

Allen Forney, Surgical Technician

What makes me proud to work at Johns Hopkins is the health care that we provide to our patients. I’ve worked here for 46 years, and we’ve had many surgeons come through who provide the health care that I would want if I were in the hospital.

Lori Parker, Nurse

I’ve been an oncology nurse for 31 years. Our patients are fighters! Being a nurse and being able to help them is the most rewarding job on the planet.
