The Johns Hopkins Hospital Ranked #3 in Nation, #1 in Maryland

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to share that The Johns Hopkins Hospital is again this year ranked #3 in the nation on U.S. News & World Report’s 2018–19 Best Hospitals list. Our new overall ranking—along with the U.S. News #8 national ranking of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center—repeats Johns Hopkins’ standing as the nation’s top-ranked hospital for patients of all ages.

This annual ranking is one of the many resources consumers use to determine where to go for the most serious and complex medical care, so we are proud to achieve this top-tier ranking. It is because of you—our exceptional physicians, nurses and care providers—that we consistently rank among the best in the nation out of the nearly 5,000 hospitals U.S. News evaluated. We thank you for all you do to deliver the highest level of compassionate care to our patients and their families.

The depth of Johns Hopkins’ innovative specialized care is just one aspect that distinguishes us from other hospitals. Of the 16 medical specialties that U.S. News ranks nationally, The Johns Hopkins Hospital had 13 in the top 10 this year, with 10 of those ranking in the top five. Please join us in recognizing these departments for their specialty rankings, shown at right.

We are grateful for all your extraordinary work throughout the health system. In the regional rankings, The Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked #1 in all specialties in Maryland and #1 in the Baltimore metro area. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s ranking rose to #6 in Maryland—up from #11—and #6 in Baltimore, and Suburban Hospital ranked #16 in Maryland and #10 in the Washington, D.C., region.

Each year we conduct a rigorous review of our U.S. News & World Report data to try to understand if there are important signals that tell us about the quality of the care we deliver to our patients. We continue to look for ways to improve the world-class care that we provide and aim for the highest levels of rankings across all our specialties.

We hope you will take some time to learn more about the rankings on the Johns Hopkins Medicine intranet and on the U.S. News website.

Congratulations, and thank you for your continued dedication, compassion and teamwork.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Rothman, M.D.
