Pluck a Blossom from the Flower Cart
Every Friday, dozens of visitors to the Flower Cart in the main lobby
of The Johns Hopkins Hospital come away with a single rose, daisy
or carnation. “They can keep it for themselves or give it to someone to make them smile,” says Flower Cart manager Ashley Connelly. She launched the weekly giveaway, dubbed Random Acts of Kindness Fridays, in early October.
The new custom has generated more foot traffic and appeals to
patrons’ better angels, Connelly says. They take a flower and say,
“I’m going to give this to my boss,” or “I’m going to give this to a
patient.”
Connelly offers a different flower each week. “It’s a fresh flower that comes in that very morning.” Random Acts of Kindness Fridays
runs indefinitely, she says.
Connelly invites new customers to visit the Flower Cart on a Friday
and leave with a fragrant bloom. “A single flower can do a lot,”
she says.
