Johns Hopkins employees and students have a new, convenient place to go in East Baltimore for technology purchases and support. The Johns Hopkins Tech Hub is located at 855 North Wolfe Street on the corner of Ashland Avenue, next to Atwater’s restaurant. The store sells tablets, laptops, desktop computers, smartwatches and accessories at an educational discount; diagnoses and repairs devices, including Apple products under warranty or for a fee; and provides technical support for software applications on any device.
Services from the Tech Hub do not replace existing Johns Hopkins procedures for purchases or technical support.
Shop the Tech Hub
Faculty, staff and students can visit the store to consult with retail information technology specialists about buying products, just as they would at any other store. Just be sure to bring your Johns Hopkins ID badge, which is required for access to the store.
Apple, Microsoft and Dell brands are available at the Tech Hub and customers can make purchases for professional use with approved departmental funds or for personal use with a credit card. Employees and students can also browse merchandise and order online at the Tech Hub website.
Ben Reynolds, director of client technology solutions in Information Technology at Johns Hopkins, says one of the benefits for employees and students is being able to obtain technology immediately from the Tech Hub. In addition to workstation equipment such as computers and laptops, the store stocks accessories such as HDMI cables and separate pieces of technology such as monitors and printers.
“You can get technology when you need it,” says Reynolds.
Get Technical Support
All Johns Hopkins University and Health System faculty, staff and students can bring their devices (personal or Johns Hopkins-issued) to the store for diagnostic and repair services. They can also get one-on-one assistance with software applications such as OneDrive, VPN, Citrix Receiver and others used across Johns Hopkins.
“If someone is having a hardware or software problem, they can sit down and get individual help,” says Reynolds. “The employees in the store are familiar with the computing environment at Hopkins so questions and concerns can be resolved quickly. The Tech Hub solves Hopkins-specific problems for Hopkins employees.”
The Tech Hub also features a software testing lab hosted by the Johns Hopkins Technology Innovation Center. There are a range of devices available where Johns Hopkins employees and students who are developing software can test their applications.
The Tech Hub began holding educational sessions with live software demonstrations in October. These sessions will be hosted on a regular basis.
Shop the Tech Hub Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Support services are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To make an appointment for technical support or to ask a question, call 410-955-5484 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
