Discovery: Allison Uzupus

Allison Uzupus became an oncology nurse two years ago after working as a laboratory researcher for leading pancreatic cancer expert Elizabeth Jaffee. “I was really interested in the science, but I knew I wanted a career seeing patients,” says Usupuz. “The interaction I have with patients as a clinic nurse is particularly meaningful. It is the realization of everything I did in the lab.” Clinic nurses care for patients on many different kinds of drugs and clinical trials, and have the challenging job of staying informed on all of the new drugs and the different reactions that could occur. “There is a lot to look forward to so early in my career,” she says. “It’s exciting to see these experimental drugs become standard of care and see patients living longer.”
