A Letter from Carolyn Carpenter, President, National Capital Region

Published in Sibley Memorial Hospital Nursing Annual Report - Fiscal Year 2020

Dear Colleagues, Patients and Community Members,

As I’ve spent the last few months getting to know the hospitals and ambulatory sites of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s National Capital Region, I’ve been continually impressed by the tireless commitment to quality, safety and compassionate care I’ve seen at all of our locations, and especially at Suburban and Sibley Memorial Hospitals.

Both hospitals have phenomenal reputations in our communities and around the region. Suburban’s achievement of Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center recognizes nursing excellence as well as the central role of nursing in providing high quality patient care. And kudos to Sibley’s nursing team, which recently started down this same path and is on track to be recognized for its own excellence. Each hospital’s Nursing Annual Report captures the unique nursing spirit that directly contributes to the patient-focused, excellent quality of care that are hallmarks of both.

My deepest thanks to all the nurses whose tireless work has augmented the trust our communities have placed in us and helped establish us as regional leaders. With the clinical, research and educational resources of Johns Hopkins Medicine here in our region, we will continue delivering on our promise of exceptional care close to home.

Regards,

Carolyn Carpenter, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E.
