Pseudotumor Cerebri Evaluation
Diagnosing Pseudotumor Cerebri Involves Three Steps
1. Neurological Examination
The examination will focus on vision assessment in particular and to determine if other disorders that mimic PTC are present. If necessary, the team will conduct additional scans at the same visit. This might be necessary if the ones you bring do not provide sufficient detail. Your scans will be reviewed in the context of your clinical assessment.
2. Neuro-Ophthalmological Examination
A detailed examination of optic nerve function is essential in the diagnosis and also for formulating a plan for your treatment. This includes detailed testing of visual function including your reading ability, color vision and visual fields.
3. Diagnostic Procedures
Your doctor may recommend a lumbar puncture, cerebrospinal fluid pressure monitoring or shunt patency study to help determine what further treatment might be right for you.
