Patient and Family Education

Welcome to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Our first priority is providing the highest quality of care to cancer patients. This means providing the best cancer therapy and supportive care available.

The Kimmel Cancer Center staff believe patient and family education is one of the most important things we do. We teach patients and their families how to actively participate in their care. Every new patient receives a Patient Guide; a customized binder. We understand that a diagnosis of cancer can be both stressful and overwhelming, so we hope this guide helps ease some of these burdens.  It is yours to keep. You will receive your Patient Guide during your first visit. The contents include information on the disease, treatment, coping with side effects and the psychological impact of cancer, nutrition, exercise and what to do when treatment is over.

While we expect the handbook will be a valuable resource to you and your family, it is not intended to replace one-on-one communication between you and your caregivers. If, at any time, you have questions or concerns about your treatment, support services, or other matters, we encourage you to discuss them with a member of your health care team.

You may also download information and materials from the National Cancer Institute's publications link.
