Small cell lung cancer is a cancer that grows fast and spreads quickly. It accounts for approximately 15 percent of all lung cancer cases. Our lung cancer specialists are expertly trained in diagnosing and treating small cell lung cancer.

  • Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) usually starts in the bronchi (airway), growing and spreading quickly to other parts of the
  • Smoking is the main cause of SCLC.
  • Symptoms of SCLC include coughing up blood, chest pain, problems breathing and wheezing.
  • Treatment is typically aggressive, including both chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and is aimed at slowing the spread of the cancer and easing related symptoms.  
  • Researchers are studying immunotherapy and other targeted therapies to treat SCLC.
