Conditions We Treat: Rare Lung Cancers

Mediastinal and carcinoid lung cancers are rare lung cancers. These types of cancers account for about 5 percent of lung cancer cases. Most tumors associated with rare lung cancers grow slowly and rarely spread. Our lung cancer specialists have extensive expertise and experience treating these rare lung cancers.

  • Carcinoid tumors are rare cancers that most often appear in the stomach or intestines, but sometimes start in the lung.
  • We often treat lung carcinoid tumors with surgery. We may also recommend chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment in combination with surgery for more advanced cancer.
