1. Influenza Vaccine Study

Are you older than 75 years? The investigators from Johns Hopkins Bayview Division of Geriatrics are looking for individuals who are age 75 and older to participate in an influenza vaccination study that will evaluate the protection and immune function of the influenza vaccine in older adults.

To determine your eligibility for the study, we will ask some questions about your health over the phone. Participation involves a series of questionnaires, measurement of your vital signs, walking speed, grip strength, collection of a blood sample, and a urine specimen. You would then receive the influenza vaccine free of charge.

Three to four weeks after you receive the flu shot you will have a second study visit, to review your general health including any flu-like symptoms, measure your vitals and take another blood sample. We will call you weekly by phone to check your overall health status throughout the flu season.

In addition to the free "Flu Shot," compensation of up to $40 will be given for expenses related to participation in three full study visits. This can take place on our campus or in your home. If you choose to travel, parking costs also will be covered.

For more information, please contact our study coordinators at 410-550-2113.
