Social Work

Nephrology social workers provide services to patients from birth to 21 years and their families diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

Social workers are involved with the child and their family in all phases of treatment, both in-patient and outpatient, to assist during kidney transplant, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and chronic renal insufficiency.

Social work services may include:

  • Assisting children and their family adjust to hospitalization
  • Coping strategies to assist the child and family manage stress associated with their diagnosis
  • Case management
  • Crisis intervention
  • Identifying resources to assist the child and his family
