Genetic Medicine Social Work

The Genetics service social worker helps patients and families communicate effectively with the health care team, cope with stress, and prepare for a timely and safe discharge.

These situations may include:

  • Clarifying guardianship and decision making authority
  • Counseling a family member who is adjusting to a diagnosis or caring for traumatic symptoms
  • Locating a community resource necessary for safe discharge or follow up care

Contact is made by referral from a member of the health care team, including family self-referral.
