Pediatric Palliative Care – Services for Health Care Professionals
Harriet Lane Compassionate Care is committed to supporting health care professionals to develop clinical competence in providing palliative and end-of-life care through education, institutional systems of care, psychosocial support and research.
Harriet Lane Compassionate Care offers several different forums for promoting excellence in pediatric palliative care. These include the following:
Patient Care Conferences
Patient Care Conferences can be initiated by any discipline involved in the case in order to clarify goals or establish a palliative plan of care for the patient or both. The HLCC team facilitates the case conferences and all members of the health care team involved in the case are invited to attend.
Bereavement Debriefing Sessions
Bereavement debriefing sessions are offered after the death of pediatric patients. These sessions offer a time and space to process the staff’s responses to the death. Residents are notified of bereavement debriefing sessions by emails from the chief residents.
Annual Tribute Service
The Children’s Center holds an annual service to honor the children who have died. Families and staff are invited to this event, usually held in the spring.
Individual Bereavement Support
The Bereavement Care Support Specialist is available to meet with staff individually to provide bereavement support. To schedule time with the Palliative Care Support Specialist, Ping Pediatric Palliative Care Consult, call 410-614-4750 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
