Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowships
The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center allows fellows the opportunity for mentored development in a highly academic environment. The three-year fellowship is open to application from both pediatric and emergency medicine residency graduates.
The fellowship program is based at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, with selected rotations to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center emergency department, Maryland Poison Center and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. The program includes rotations in pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric critical care, anesthesia, trauma, toxicology, child abuse, emergency medical services and adult emergency medicine.
Recent fellows’ projects have included topics in curriculum development, disaster preparedness, emergency mental health, infectious disease, POCUS, quality improvement, toxicology, and transport medicine.
Applications are accepted from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 each year. All applications should be processed through the Association of American Medical Colleges ERAS system.

Johns Hopkins Visiting Resident Elective Program to Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Pediatric Subspecialties
The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center values diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are thrilled to welcome residents who are committed to addressing health care disparities to apply for pediatric subspecialty elective rotations!
Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a 4-week visiting rotation in their subspecialty of interest while also having the opportunity to participate in various community engagement activities hosted by the Johns Hopkins House Staff Diversity Council and The Department of Pediatrics Diversity and Inclusion Council.
We are providing a stipend of $2000 for qualified residents to help defray the cost of an away rotation. Additionally, we will provide up to $500 to assist with cost of travel. Applications will be considered based on merit and availability. We will only consider applicants who wish to complete the elective between February and June and will be entering the Fall 2023 match cycle. We anticipate we may not be able to fund as many qualified applicants for this program as we would like and are actively looking for funding to expand this program in the future.
*Applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine are encouraged to apply! According to the AAMC, "Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population."
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be in good standing at an ACGME-accredited U.S. residency program and plan to complete training in a pediatric subspecialty fellowship. Of note this program is open to Pediatrics and Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Residents.
Applicants should apply in the second year or later during the winter preceding their application to Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The timing of the rotation will be subject to completing the necessary licensure/credentialing steps and final approval by your home institution.
Visiting Elective Application Process
Applications open yearly in November and the application deadline is April 1st.
