Porto Alegre, Brazil
In August 2013, Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI) signed an agreement with Hospital Moinhos de Vento of Porto Alegre, Brazil—one of that nation’s leaders in health care delivery and innovation.
The affiliation will help to promote knowledge transfer and research between the institutions. It will include the implementation of innovative programs in patient safety and nursing, for example, Johns Hopkins’ renowned Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP). The institutions will also explore opportunities to establish a research center that will help Brazilian health care experts advance their research.
At the signing, HMV’s executive superintendent Fernando A. Torelly said,
“We are honored by this collaboration. Our new affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International represents both the achievement of an objective and the start of a new cycle that complements our strategic planning. We view our institution from an international perspective and are ready to introduce a new form of integrating assistance, teaching and research in Brazil, with a focus on what is best for our patients.”
About Our Agreement
Under the agreement, JHI and HMV will focus on:
- Enhancing existing clinical strengths (including prevention and treatment of Brazil’s most prevalent chronic conditions)
