Dorado Beach Health

Dorado Beach health

Dorado, Puerto Rico

2010 - Present

Overview

Dorado Beach Health is a greenfield hospital and outpatient health center scheduled to open in 2021. It will be a 105-bed private health care facility located about 37 kilometers west of San Juan and will offer inpatient and outpatient services, diagnostics, critical care, surgical services and emergency care, as well as 20,000 square feet of multispecialty clinics.

About Our Agreement

Johns Hopkins began consulting on this project in 2010 with market analysis, financial modeling, and follow-up recommendations on architecture and facilities. When the developers were ready to begin construction in early 2019, Johns Hopkins and Dorado Beach Health signed a new, seven-and-a-half-year collaboration agreement in April 2019 that includes:

  • Architectural review and commissioning
  • Hospital operations
  • Clinical program development and continuing medical education for clinicians
  • Quality and patient safety programs (including Joint Commission International accreditation preparation)
  • Key performance indicator benchmarking
  • Telehealth

Points of Pride

  • Collaboration between three prominent stakeholders in Puerto Rico: PRISA group, a developer known for its work in hotels and real estate; Triple S, a private health insurer; and Carlos Blanco, the owner of the Doctors’ Center Hospital system that will operate the facility
  • First 100% private-room facility in Puerto Rico
  • $107 million hospital facility will raise the standard of care on the island and increase its potential to become the center of medical tourism in the region
