Vision

Increase efficiency of healthcare delivery and use our multidisciplinary approach, trajectory analysis, and novel subgroup identification to tailor the monitoring and treatment of the disease to the individual.

Mission

Leverage the longitudinal nature of our clinical cohort, coupled with prospectively collected biospecimens, to better classify unique phenotypes of inflammatory muscle disease. Precise phenotyping allows for a directed personalized approach to potentially better identify early signs of disease flare, determine appropriate clinical trial candidates that represent a more homogenous group, and eliminate the longstanding trial and error approach of therapeutic decision making.

Myositis Research and Precision Medicine

Questions we're asking that inform us on how to best care for patients include:

Identify Distinct Patient Trajectories

Can we determine unique clinical trajectories in our myositis cohort using validated outcome measures for skin, lung, and muscle?

hexagon pattern

Determining Predictors

Can we determine clinical and biologic predictors of response to different treatment regimens?

DNA strand

Tailoring Recommendations

Can we tailor cancer screening recommendations to distinct subgroups of myositis patients?

Clinical Trials

The Myositis Center is actively participating in clinical trials of new therapies that may improve our patients’ quality of life and better control disease activity. Current, active clinical trials are listed at the link below.

Patient Care for Myositis

The Johns Hopkins Myositis Center brings together a wide range of expertise and takes a true multi-disciplinary approach to care. Our program couples clinical and basic science research in the departments of Rheumatology and Neurology at the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus and incorporates Pulmonology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, including Occupational and Speech therapy.
