Sharing The Cure

Sharing The Cure is a clinician training and telemedicine program implemented by the Johns Hopkins Viral Hepatitis Center. The program trains primary care clinicians to treat hepatitis C to help alleviate specialty provider workforce shortages. Sharing The Cure is a component of Community-Based Programs to Test and Cure Hepatitis C, a grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and awarded to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (MDHMH). MDHMH works in collaboration with a coalition of clinical and public health partners. The initiative aims to reduce hepatitis C related morbidity and mortality in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Sharing The Cure is an intensive program. The primary care providers who complete it have successfully engaged in a full day conference on hepatitis C specialty care, mini-clinical preceptorship in the Viral Hepatitis Center, and weekly lectures and case discussion for approximately six months, during which they treated their patients in collaboration with specialists from the Viral Hepatitis Center.  Finally, the providers pass a rigorous exam before being awarded Hepatitis C Provider Certification.
