Home Medical Equipment Team

Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip’s home medical equipment team is trained to help you find the right respiratory and medical equipment that allows you to safely perform daily activities in your home

Penny Carey, Executive Director DME/RT Services

Penny has worked for Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip and Pediatrics at Home for 21 years. She is a registered respiratory therapist with experience and training in critical care, homecare, lean sigma, networking, operational design and leadership. She stays active with both state and federal agencies to advocate and lobby for the rights of home medical equipment providers. Her involvement with CMS, AAHomecare, AARC, MD Thoracic Society and other respiratory focused agencies afford her the ability to stay current and advocate for best practice principles. Penny says she is “fortunate and blessed to work with a team of passionate, dedicated employees that understand and believe in the patient-centered care of Johns Hopkins Home Care Group”. 

Kristi Stacharowski, Director, HME Services

Kristi has worked in various roles of operations in her health care career, including professional leadership, service excellence and staff development. She has been with Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip since 1997 and takes pride in her role’s ability to make a difference and have an impact on the lives of patients and employees. “As part of Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip, I am able to provide individualized care and focus when working to meet our daily objectives,” she says. Kristi has both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a minor in accounting.

Deborah Brown, Clinical Manager of Respiratory Services

Deborah is a registered respiratory therapist with 36 years of experience in respiratory care. She joined Johns Hopkins in 1979 and worked in the pediatric ICU for 12 years before transitioning to the quality assurance and education division where she educated various nursing teams on respiratory care. In 1995, Deborah joined Johns Hopkins Pediatrics at Home as a respiratory therapist before becoming a clinical manager, overseeing the clinical operations for pediatric and adult respiratory care. Deborah is enthusiastic and her goal is to “treat every patient, family member and referral source with compassion and provide safe, quality care in the home setting”.

Giles Pinto, Director of Distribution

Giles has worked for Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip since 2017, and has worked in the Health Medical Equipment industry for over seven years. Giles directs the overall operations of the warehouse including purchasing, distribution and servicing for Johns Hopkins Home Care Group's medical equipment and supplies. Giles studied business administration and received his master's and bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. Giles oversees the delivery of supplies and equipment to hundreds of patients every day and believes that each delivery "is a patient not a package".

Carrie Scott, Operations Manager, Virginia Branch

Carrie joined the Pharmaquip team in 2013 and runs the Springfield, Virginia location. She has varied professional health care experience that spans 25 years and enjoys working in all aspects of the business. Carrie has enthusiasm and enjoys her ability to impact patients in a positive manner. “My favorite part of my job is working with the public, and love the fact that we are able to - in most cases - improve their quality of life,” Carrie says. “I also enjoy managing my staff and inspiring them to be the best they can be.”

Maria Koehnlein, Reimbursement Manager

Maria is a reimbursement manager with over 30 years of experience in durable medical equipment reimbursement management, human resources, compliance audit and five years of weight management coaching experience. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in psychology and has a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. “My favorite part of the job is working with people and helping those who report to me maximize their potential,” she says.
