Phone Service Update

We are experiencing extremely high call volume related to COVID-19 vaccine interest. Please understand that our phone lines must be clear for people with urgent and acute medical care needs. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to accept phone calls to schedule COVID-19 vaccinations at this time. When this changes, we will update this web site. Read more COVID-19 Vaccine Information

Chief’s Corner

heart and vascular - Image of Dr. Charles Lowenstein

January 2021 will mark the end of my first year as Chief of Cardiology – and what a year it has been. The COVID-19 pandemic has swept across Maryland and the United States and the world, testing us all. But our community of providers, scientists, scholars and trainees here at Hopkins has risen to meet the challenge together.

We have shown flexibility, ingenuity, and resilience inside our Division of Cardiology and throughout the Heart and Vascular Institute. We have adapted to new tasks. We have worked on floors, caring for patients with COVID-19. We have worked in call centers to talk with concerned patients. We have created new ways to study the coronavirus and how it attacks the heart and vascular system. We have used teleconferences to educate more fellows and faculty than ever before. Most importantly, we have cared for each other.

When I made the decision to return to Johns Hopkins, it was these people that drew me back. They do not stand alone as a source of encouragement for me during this pandemic. I have been equally struck by the support I have witnessed from the larger Heart and Vascular Institute community – patients and donors like you who share my respect for these men and women, and who choose Johns Hopkins as their go-to source for medical care. Thank you for trusting us with your health and honoring us with your contributions. You inspire us - and we could all use a little inspiration these days!

Please stay safe, and best wishes to you and your family for the holiday season.

With Gratitude,

Charles Lowenstein, M.D.
