Child Life and Social Work
Child Life Services
Our Child Life specialists work in the inpatient and outpatient settings to enhance the emotional and social well-being of your child and family throughout your health care experience. The Heart Center has a dedicated Child Life specialist who supports our kids in all phases of their care.
Social Work
A social worker will collaborate with your care team to assist in meeting any psychological, emotional, social and practical needs your child or family may have.

The Believe in Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins is located at 1915 McElderry Street, across from the hospital’s Wolfe Street entrance. Heart families must live more than 30 miles or 30 minutes from the Children’s Center and be compatible with group living.
Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children. The Ronald McDonald House serves as a temporary residence near the hospital where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations. A hospital social worker, unit nurse or doctor must refer the family.

Johns Hopkins has negotiated discounted rates for patients and families with a number of hotels near our hospitals. When requesting reservations, ask about specific offers for patients at the hospital you plan to visit..

The Johns Hopkins Hospital has a number of services available to help your and your family's time here be as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Dining options range from a quick cup of coffee and grab-and-go meals to gourmet soups, salads and entrees.
