Award applicants must be citizens or noncitizen nationals of the United States, or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence by the time of award.

Applicants must currently be house officers (interns or residents) at US training programs in internal medicine.

Selection Criteria

Research must show results (not merely proposed design).

Research may have been conducted prior to housestaff training (e.g., medical school, college, masters program).

Research may have been already presented/published (if so, please attach).

Submissions will be evaluated on:

  • Quality of applicant/likelihood for success in academic medicine
  • Commitment to career in academic GIM
  • Quality of research

Application Details

Each applicant must select the category in which he/she wishes to compete, complete an application form (including a statement of interest in academic GIM and an abstract summarizing his/her research), and have two (2) letters of recommendation submitted by individuals who are familiar with his/her qualifications and research (e.g., residency director, research mentor).
