This two- to four-week elective provides clinical experience for medical students in their third or fourth years of medical school. During the elective, students will rotate through these programs and services in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, located on a Johns Hopkins medical campus in Baltimore, Maryland:
- JHOME, which provides regular physician house calls as well as nursing services and rehabilitative therapy for local home-bound patients
- Hopkins ElderPlus PACE, which provides a full array of services including comprehensive care, day care, and in-home services
- Long-term care through the Specialty Hospital Programs, which provides all levels of care, including comprehensive (skilled) nursing beds and chronic hospital beds
- Peri-Operative Medicine Services
- Inpatient rehabilitation
In addition, students will work at the Beacham Center for Geriatric Medicine, an outpatient primary care practice that includes specialty clinics in osteoporosis clinic, continence, and geriatric assessment.
Clinical electives are available to Johns Hopkins School of Medicine students or those who are attending either an LCME-approved school or schools with which Johns Hopkins has a formal affiliation.
Visiting students must apply for these electives through the School of Medicine Registrar’s Office.
