    • Drama Training Strategies for Promoting Humanism and Teaching Communication Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm Locations: Online Details:

A theatrical actor uses the words of the playwright, as well as their voice and physicality to tell their character’s story during each performance. The skills needed to accomplish this humanism have strong correlatives in the empathy, non-verbal communication, and listening skills that are required of health professionals in their patient, learner, and interprofessional relationships. In this session, participants will engage in theatrical acting exercises that have been adapted to develop clinical communication skills in a fun and low-stakes environment.  This session is limited to 30 participants.

      Learning Objectives

      1.  Describe in detail how they physicalize everyday emotions in teaching and clinical interactions (or encounters).
      2. Compare and contrast key communication skills used in both the theater and clinical settings.
      3. Appraise different drama training strategies and apply appropriate ones in their role as educator, clinician, or team leader to improve their communication skills and those of others.
