The Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit

The Black Men in White Coats (BMWC) initiative was founded in 2013 by Dr. Dale Okorodudu in response to an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report highlighting the decreasing number of black male applicants to medical school. The summit's goal is to inspire all youth to consider careers in healthcare while laying the foundation for success via mentorship and networking. The Youth Summit is geared towards middle and high schoolers, undergraduate students, and those who support them.

Pathways to Medicine Discovery Lab

Pathways to Medicine Discovery Lab (PMDL) is a Johns Hopkins Medicine outreach program designed to encourage and recruit URiM medical students into academic residency programs and a career in academic medicine! During the coming calendar year, there will be 3 labs where we will discuss topics about the preclinical years and the clinical years that can guide participants through challenges of medical school and inspire them to pursue academic medicine. To discuss matters in regards to:- Advises the JH-SOM Program Manager for Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity on solutions for identified needs and issues of pathway program leads
- Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs & Medical Student Diversity, Assistant Dean for Graduate Biomedical Education & Graduate Student Diversity, and JH-SOM Program Coordinator to lead the SOM Student Diversity Council
- Identifies D&I barriers that impact recruitment, retention and advancement, recruitment, training, and critical assignments.
- In collaboration with the JHM Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity, implement the IDARE (inclusion, diversity, anti-racism, and equity) educational strategy, which includes unconscious bias, microaggressions, allyship, anti-oppression, and other topics as they may arise, for medical and graduate students.
