Reminder: The Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit

Sat. Apr 30, 2022 11:00am - 1:30pm
Zoom Online Session

On Saturday, April 30, the Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity will host The Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit. This virtual event will be held from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. We are pleased to invite you and the communities you serve to participate in the summit. The Youth Summit is geared towards middle and high schoolers, undergraduate students, and those who support them.

The Black Men in White Coats (BMWC) initiative was founded in 2013 by Dr. Dale Okorodudu in response to an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report highlighting the decreasing number of black male applicants to medical school. summit's goal is to inspire all youth to consider careers in healthcare while laying the foundation for success via mentorship and networking.

We have a number of informative sessions planned with knowledgeable facilitators and speakers. Workshop sessions include:

  • First Aid Workshop hosted by clinicians from the Johns Hopkins Hospital Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Attendees will interact with the clinicians as they demonstrate first aid skills such as CPR, the Heimlich, and ‘Stop the Bleed’.
  • Mental Health Workshop is an open discussion between the audience and a Johns Hopkins mental health professional on topics such as: distinguishing between mental health and mental illness, establishing healthy coping skills, and recognizing when you need help.

The official flyer with the summit schedule can be found here.
