Managing diabetes starts with education. The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Diabetes Center Education Program offers patients the knowledge and skills to control their disease. A dedicated health-care team, including physicians, nurse educators, dietitians and mental health counselors, helps to make controlling diabetes a part of a full productive life.
The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Diabetes Center offers individual appointments to meet one-on-one with a nurse practitioner or dietitian certified diabetes educator, as well as group education programs. Group and individual sessions are geared for those in whom diabetes has been newly diagnosed, those who need education updates, and those who want to hear about the latest in how best to manage diabetes.
The Diabetes Center offers multiple educational programs to meet participants' needs and schedules. Classes are conducted in a relaxed, small-group setting, and family members or a support person are invited to share the experience. Classes usually last 3 hours and include “Diabetes 101" for patients recently diagnosed with diabetes or for those who would like a refresher on the basics of diabetes and its management, and “Nutrition 101” for those who have never seen a dietitian and need basic nutrition education. Other classes include more specialized topics such as “Navigating the Grocery Store” or Nutrition for Wound Healing”, and ones that are more seasonal such as “Nutrition Tips for Holiday Meal Planning”. Space is limited, so register now to learn more about diabetes and to take those first critical steps toward taking control of your health.
Our educational programs are held in the Diabetes Center in the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center.
