The mission of the Johns Hopkins University-University of Maryland Diabetes Research Center is to facilitate new knowledge about diabetes and other metabolic disorders, support training and mentorship of the next generation of clinicians and investigators, and to promote basic, clinical and population n diabetes, related metabolic disorders and their complications.

We recognize disparities in the biological, environmental and social factors underlying the etiology of diabetes, the risk of developing diabetes complications, access to health care, and treatment outcomes. We strive to fully understand the factors that contribute to these disparities and to develop strategies to effectively address them.

Our long-term objective is to use our scientific knowledge to identify and implement effective strategies to prevent or treat diabetes and related diseases.

Through our outreach activities, we engage with the communities surrounding our institutions to share our findings. We also help implement strategies that will halt the diabetes epidemic and directly benefit individuals with diabetes mellitus and related medical conditions.
