Transgender Women Needed for a Truvada Dosing Study

Transgender women needed for a research study that involves taking daily observed doses of the HIV drug Truvada, along with Lupron injections and oral estrogen. This research involves multiple study visits, including 5 separate day-long visits for blood and colon tissue sampling.

Basic Study Requirements:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • HIV negative
  • Transgender women not currently on hormones or willing to temporarily stop hormone therapy
  • Willing to come in for 5 day-long visits at the Johns Hopkins Hospital
  • Willing to come to Johns Hopkins for daily observed Truvada dosing

Transgender patients taking or planning to begin estrogen or testosterone therapy needed for a research study of the hormone influence in skin aging.   The study involves completion of a questionnaire, de-identified photographs of the face, and donation of small tissue samples (skin biopsies, skin swabs).  This research involves a single study visit for patients who are already on hormone therapy and two study visits for patients planning to begin hormone therapy.

Basic Study Requirements:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Currently on hormone therapy or planning to begin hormone therapy
  • Willing to come in for one 30-minute visit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Outpatient Center (two 30-minute visits for patients not yet on hormone therapy)

Earn $20 per skin biopsy (up to $60 if already on hormones and $120 if not)

Exploring and Addressing Diagnostic Disparities

Are you LGBTQ+ and have you experienced difficulties with getting an accurate or timely explanation of a health problem (a diagnosis)? We are seeking to understand how a patient's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression can impact their ability to receive a diagnosis. We are recruiting patients and family members to discuss their experiences of difficulties with getting an accurate, timely, or well-communicated diagnosis. Your participation is completely voluntary and will not involve more than 1-2 hours over Zoom/phone at a time that works best for you.

  • LGBTQ+ and have experienced difficulties with getting an accurate or timely explanation of a health problem (a diagnosis)
  • 1-2 hours over Zoom/phone at a time that works best for you

Black Transgender Women Needed for a Study on Health Self-Management

Transgender women needed for a research study that involves completing an electronic survey that takes 45 minutes to complete. This is part of a series of projects at Emory University School of Nursing in which Black transgender women work with public health nurses to co-create a community-based mental health intervention to offset the negative effects of stigma and victimization experienced by the community. This intervention will be designed by Black transgender women, delivered by Black transgender women, specifically for Black transgender women.

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Living in the United States
