The Center for Music & Medicine accepts patients through the following medical departments. Please discuss your condition with your primary care provider first to help determine referral to the appropriate group.
- Neurology and Neurosurgery (conditions such as ataxia, balance disorders, Parkinson’s disease)
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (conditions such as tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries and overuse injuries)
- Orthopaedic Surgery (if surgery is required for conditions such as carpal tunnel, rotator cuff injuries and tendonitis)
- Rheumatology (rheumatoid arthritis)
- Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) (difficulty singing, swallowing and hearing loss)
- Psychiatry and Behavioral Science (Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss)
- Palliative Medicine
Neurologists and neurosurgeons treat diseases, injuries and conditions of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system (motor and sensory nerves and ganglia outside of the brain and spinal cord).

Physical medicine and rehabilitation focuses on restoring the health and functional abilities of people after illness or injury, such as a stroke, spinal cord injury, heart surgery, amputation, joint replacement, sports or performance injuries, spinal disorders and other conditions.
The Center for Music & Medicine recommends scheduling an appointment with a rehabilitation physician or therapist for the following conditions:
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
- Tendonitis including:
- Bicipital tendonitis
- Trigger finger
- Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s and baseball elbow)
- DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis
Your primary care provider may also recommend physical medicine and rehabilitation for treatment of the following conditions:
- Carpal tunnel
- Cubital tunnel
- Musician’s dystonia
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Balance disorders
- Parkinson’s disease

Orthopaedic surgeons include specialists in foot and ankle, hand, hip and knee, oncology, pediatrics, shoulder and elbow, spine, sports medicine, revision surgery and trauma. They address acute injuries and conditions related to aging, overuse and traumatic accident with the objective of improving mobility, range of motion and quality of life.
