Our Mission
The mission of the John G. Bartlett Specialty Practice is to provide outstanding, evidence-based, clinical infectious disease care with access for all. We aim to bring home-based HIV/STI testing and linkage to prevention and treatment services through our virtual technologies.

PrEP and PEP
Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), is a once daily pill that can prevent HIV up to 99%. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), is for people who may have been exposed to HIV in the previous 72 hours.

Home Testing
IWTK offers free, accurate and confidential testing in the privacy and comfort of your home for two common STIs: chlamydia and gonorrhea. In-home HIV test kits are free and available to Baltimore City residents.
About Us
Our Ending the HIV Epidemic Telehealth Program uses virtual technologies, including phone and video, to provide access to a range of services. These services include linkage to HIV/STI prevention and treatment services, general HIV education, free home-based HIV/STI testing, and HIV primary care. Additionally, our program can connect people to transportation, food resources, and other social support services as requested.

Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) is a bold plan announced in 2019 that aims to end the HIV epidemic in the United States by 2030. Agencies across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed an operational plan to pursue that goal accompanied by a request for additional resources that were provided by Congress.

The plan leverages critical scientific advances in HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and outbreak response by coordinating the highly successful programs, resources, and infrastructure of many HHS agencies and offices. In its first phase, the initiative is focusing on areas where HIV transmission occurs most frequently, providing 57 geographic focus areas with an infusion of additional resources, expertise, and technology to develop and implement locally tailored EHE plans.

STI Signs and Symptoms
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) can have a range of signs and symptoms. Since most people with STIs DO NOT have symptoms, you should routinely test for STIs if you have oral, anal, and/or vaginal sex without a condom.
Signs and symptoms that may indicate an STI can include:
- Sores or bumps on the genitals or in the oral or rectal area
- Painful or burning urination
- Discharge from the penis
- Unusual or odd-smelling vaginal discharge
- Unusual vaginal bleeding
- Pain during sex
- Sore, swollen lymph nodes, particularly in the groin but sometimes more widespread
- Lower abdominal pain
- Fever
- Rash over the trunk, hands or feet
Timing of Symptoms
Signs and symptoms may appear a few days after exposure, or it may take years before you have any noticeable problems, depending on the organism.
Infection Prevention
You can prevent STIs by using condoms with oral, anal and vaginal sex. Dental dams prevent STIs when performing oral-anal and oral-vaginal sex.
