Charlene Gamaldo is associate professor in the department of neurology, medicine, psychiatry, and school of public health at Johns Hopkins University. She serves as medical director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Sleep Disorders Center at Howard County.

Dr. Gamaldo’s research interests are in the area of sleep medicine, specifically in investigating the comorbid health consequences of chronic sleep deprivation, and she is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the World Association of Sleep Medicine.

She received her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. After her neurology residency at the University of North Carolina Hospital, Gamaldo became the first neurology sleep fellow at Johns Hopkins, where she served as a co-investigator on primary and collaborative studies evaluating the impact of sleep on management and progression of diseases to include the HIV disease and chronic pain management.  She is also a committed educator and has published on effective educational strategies for providing sleep education to non-sleep specialists, students, and patients across the health care field.
