Ellen Stein, M.D.
Dr. Ellen Stein is an assistant professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is the current Division Director for Informatics and Lead Epic Physician Champion. Her clinical and research interests include clinical applications of informatics, dysphagia (swallowing disorders), gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility, eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroparesis, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), constipation and other gastrointestinal motility disorders.
In addition, Dr. Stein worked in the motility laboratory at Albert Einstein with the esteemed Dr. Philip Katz, pursuing advanced training in esophageal motility. Dr. Stein is currently Clinical Division Director of the Bayview Campus of Johns Hopkins. She has a specific research focus in post-operative recovery of motility function, and she works intensively with the TPIAT (total pancreatectomy and autoislet cell transplant) program to provide motility support to the patients after their surgery.
She completed undergraduate training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and received her medical degree (M.D.) from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. She then completed Gastroenterology Fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
