Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital during your summer break!

What are the requirements to be a Student Summer Volunteer?

All students must have a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) or higher and have submitted a complete application by the deadline. Adult students must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school. Teens interested in volunteering must have completed the ninth grade.

Teen opportunities are limited because our patients have let us know that they are not comfortable interacting with teen volunteers in a variety of roles. If you are a teen, we strongly recommend that you apply for other summer programs as well as this one.

Interested students must be able to commit to volunteer at least one day a week for 3 – 4 hours, missing no more than two days. 

To be accepted, students will need the following:

• Proof of 2 Measles, Mumps and Rubella immunizations
• Proof of 2 Varicella immunizations or medical proof of having had the chickenpox
• Complete a tuberculosis screening (provided by Johns Hopkins All Children's)
• Complete Johns Hopkins All Children’s online orientation
• One academic letter of reference (see criteria)
• Essay (see criteria)
• A signed parental permission slip (under 18)
• Background check (over 18 ONLY)

When can I apply for the Student Summer Program?

If we have a 2022 program our application period will begin in February. 

What are the Volunteer Opportunities?

Volunteer opportunities for the student summer program are throughout the entire hospital, Outpatient Care Centers and the Child Developmental and Rehabilitation Center. Volunteer opportunities are based on what openings are available at the time of placement.

How will I know I have been accepted?

All applicants will receive an email by April of that year with a decision. 

When does the Student Summer Program begin and end?
