Kim Hoppe

As the vice president of communications for Johns Hopkins Medicine, Kim Hoppe oversees strategic media interaction, public relations, and integrated external and internal institutional communications. She is responsible for ensuring timely and informative communications for an internal audience of more than 42,000 employees, as well as increasing public awareness for Johns Hopkins Medicine, managing and monitoring issues, implementing crisis communication management and developing a systemwide proactive media communication strategy.

Since joining Johns Hopkins in 2004 as associate director of communications and public affairs for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Ms. Hoppe has managed media relations, video production, special event coordination and the Johns Hopkins Medicine media, public relations and corporate communications teams. She has helped the institution navigate both opportunities and issues management while serving as director — and later senior director — of public relations and corporate communications. She also served as interim vice president of marketing and communications for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital from 2018 to 2019.

A journalist for 10 years, Ms. Hoppe was a senior TV news producer, medical news producer and newsroom manager at the Baltimore CBS and ABC television affiliates, and a coordinating producer for Maryland Public Television. She earned a master’s degree in communication from The Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Connecticut.
