Jessica Melton

Jessica Melton, M.H.A., serves as Suburban Hospital’s president and chief operating officer. Ms. Melton oversees Suburban Hospital’s inpatient and ambulatory services and leads the hospital’s quality and safety programs and financial initiatives. She also works with Suburban Hospital’s Board of Trustees and Johns Hopkins Medicine executive leadership to facilitate strategic growth in the National Capital Region, while ensuring that plans align with and support Suburban’s daily operations.

Prior to joining Suburban Hospital, Ms. Melton served as chief operating officer at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she oversaw daily operations, quality and safety, and physician partnerships. Ms. Melton also has held progressive leadership roles at Duke University Hospital, including vice president of medical, surgical and critical care services, vice president of emergency services and patient flow, administrative director of emergency preparedness and trauma, and director of the Duke Preparedness and Response Center.

Ms. Melton received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and her Master of Healthcare Administration with concentrations in finance, community preparedness and disaster management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her administrative fellowship at Duke University Hospital, and received Six Sigma training and certification as an executive coach through North Carolina State University. Ms. Melton is a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives, the American College of Healthcare Executives and Delta Omega honor society.
