DAVID B. MARCH JOINS COMMUNICATIONS STAFF AT JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICINE

David B. March, a science writer and former public relations agency consultant, has joined the media relations staff at Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Office of Corporate  Communications.  March comes to Hopkins from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he practiced media rel ations for Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center.

March’s areas of responsibility at Hopkins include cardiology/cardiac surgery, HIV/AIDS, bioethics, community medicine and psychiatry, complementary medicine, emergency medicine, endocrinology, internal medicine, gynecology/obstetrics, infectious diseases, nursing, otolaryngology, pathology and urban health.

Prior to joining the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, March was a media relations consultant for Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia, Canada.  For five years before this, he worked for Canada’s largest public relations agency, National Public Relations, an affiliate of Burson-Marsteller, managing drug product launches and doctor/patient advocacy campaigns for several major pharmaceutical firms.  During this time, he was also the annual public relations sponsor for BC’s largest annual fund-raising Walk for AIDS.  Before entering public relations, March worked for the Vancouver City Health Board and local health charities in developing the province’s first anti-tobacco strategy and passing Canada’s most strict municipal no-smoking bylaws.  Local politicians recognized his successful campaign with a “Champion of Public Health” award. 

March received his bachelor of sciences degree in biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and holds a master of health administration degree from the University of Ottawa.
