About Echography

Ophthalmic Ultrasound, also referred to as echography, is an imaging technique useful in the evaluation of intraocular structures when ophthalmoscopic evaluation is limited or totally obscured. It has also been proven to be useful in the evaluation and differentiation of intraocular tumors, orbital tumors, extraocular muscle disorders, as well as retrobulbar optic nerve disease. Ophthalmic echography is also used to obtain measurments of the eyes to aid in the determination of intraocular lens power for patients undergoing cataract extraction and placement of an artificial lens. Like all forms of ultrasound examinations it is non-invasive, inexpensive, and easily obtainable in a relatively short amount of time.
