Dr. Jeremy Nathans, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Wilmer faculty member, has received an Innovative Ophthalmic Research Award from Research to Prevent Blindness. The three-year, $100,000 award was created in 2011 to support scientists actively engaged in ophthalmic research with the goal of understanding the visual system and related diseases. Dr. Nathans will use the award to analyze the way in which retinal neurons and glia respond to damage and stress by changing gene expression.
