Longtime Wilmer Employee Lillie Alston Honored by Hopkins

5/19/2014

Lillie Alston

Longtime Wilmer employee Lillie Alston was honored by The Johns Hopkins Hospital as part of their 125th anniversary celebration on May 6. Alston, or Miss Lil, as she is affectionately known, is Hopkins' longest-serving employee, having amassed 58 years of service.

Alston began her career at Hopkins in 1956 in the nutrition department. Following her maternity leave in 1969, she joined Wilmer Eye Institute, working first in the General Eye Service and then on the 3rd floor. She now works as a patient service coordinator (PSC) at Wilmer's Bendann Surgical Pavilion, managing the registration for same-day surgery patients and assisting with prepping the surgical charts for future surgery patients. Those who have had surgery in Bendann will likely recall her smile and warm greeting upon their arrival. Nurse manager Shailaja Chopde notes, "I can always depend on Miss Lil to be at the front desk at 5:30 am every day, rain or shine."

Wilmer thanks and congratulates 'Miss Lil' on her years of service to Wilmer and Hopkins.
