Wilmer Imaging and Microscopy Core User Fees

User Fees

The fee schedule for Fiscal 07 (effective July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007) is posted below. For all MICF member labs, billing will be carried out electronically after the beginning of the fiscal year for the entire year’s membership. The MICF must have a steady income stream to fulfill its annual operating budget; therefore, member labs will not be able to drop and resume membership for a given instrument on a month-by-month basis. Labs joining mid-year will be charged a pro-rated fee for the balance of the fiscal year. For fee for service work, a budget number will be requested shortly after the project is completed.

As we continue to develop our user base, we have found it necessary to review and adjust our user fees and policies to provide the best service and technical support, as well as cover the costs of service contracts necessary to maintain our equipment.  Additionally, as we receive applications from persons at JHMI who are not part of Wilmer or ENT (collaborators on our Microscopy Core Grant), we find ourselves balancing equipment access for our internal member labs with generating much needed additional income from those outside.  Therefore we have developed a two tier billing system to address this:

  • TEM and confocal monthly member fees for Wilmer/ENT users is $120/month per Principle Investigator.
  • TEM and confocal monthly member fees for NON-Wilmer/ENT users is $120/month per individual end user (not per PI). After 36 hours of use, an additional $25/hour will be charged.

If you have any questions regarding billing, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Ellen Pease at mpease@jhmi.edu.

How to calculate your user fees to budget for grants:

Each primary investigator can estimate his or her lab’s annual charges by adding up the monthly access fee for each instrument used. For example, a lab using the confocal and inverted microscope will be billed $1740/year for unlimited access to these instruments.  Please also note that training fees will be assessed for new users trained by our staff.
