Melanie Sobel, M.D., is an instructor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. She is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and manages a wide range of eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and eyelid disease.
Dr. Sobel earned undergraduate degrees in both psychology and biochemistry & cell biology from the University of California, San Diego and her medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Long Island (NY) Jewish Medical Center and then her ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, where she was elected Chief Resident. She also served as the Resident Coordinator of the Glaucoma Screening Program.
