Saras Ramanathan, M.D. is an Assistant Professor at the Wilmer Eye Institute, the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ramanathan is a native of Seattle, Washington, where she received her undergraduate and medical training at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Following this, she moved eastward to complete her ophthalmology residency training and join the faculty at the University of Chicago. She continued her eastward journey by joining the faculty here at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Over the past 10 years, Dr. Ramanathan has been keenly interested in the surgical care of ocular disease as well as appropriate and safe residency education. While at the University of Chicago, she fundamentally influenced residency training as the Residency Program Director. Here at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Dr. Ramanathan plays an active role on the Residency Education Committee, and in resident training. She is delighted to have been awarded several awards for excellence in resident education. It is her goal to create a Center for Excellence in Ophthalmology Education here at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Ramanathan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
