Dr. Vivek R. Patel, M.D., an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Patel sees the spectrum of neuro-ophthalmic disorders, with particular academic and clinical interest in pseudotumor cerebri as well as treatment of double vision, both clinically and surgically.
Dr. Patel was born in Zambia and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1981. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees, with distinction, from the University of Saskatchewan. He completed his internship and residency training in ophthalmology at McGill University and then pursued fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Southern California, Doheny Eye Institute. Prior to his current position, he was in clinical and academic practice at the University of Ottawa, serving as director of the neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at the Ottawa Eye Institute. He currently serves as a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada board examiner for the ophthalmology and neurology certification examinations. He received faculty teaching awards at the University of Southern California (2007), University of Wisconsin (2008) and University of Ottawa (2009).
Dr. Patel sees patients at Wilmer Eye Institute's Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview Medical Center locations.
