Peter J. McDonnell

Peter J McDonnelPeter J. McDonnell, M.D. is the Director and William Holland Wilmer Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. A board-certified ophthalmologist and specialist in corneal disease and surgery, Dr. McDonnell is an international leader in corneal transplantation, and laser refractive surgery, and treating dry eye.  His research interests include the causes and correction of refractive error, corneal wound healing and microbial keratitis.  He has served on the editorial boards of numerous ophthalmology journals and is currently the Chief Medical Editor of Ophthalmology Times He has also served as a consultant to the Department of Health and Human Services.   

Dr. McDonnell received his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, served as chief resident while completing his residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, and completed his fellowship in cornea and external disease from the Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California 

He is listed in Woodward and White’s Best Doctors in America and was named one of the “Best Ophthalmologists in America by Ophthalmology Times.
