Xiaonong Liu is a graduate of the School of Medicine, Suzhou University, China, and worked as an ophthalmologist at the teaching hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine for four and a half years before immigrating to the United States in 1986. She was trained in Orthoptic & Ophthalmic Technology at the University of Florida and earned her Master degree of Science in Vision Science at State University of New York, State College of Optometry. Ms Liu received her orthoptic certification in 1998, and then worked at the University of Maryland before joining the staff at Wilmer in 2001. She is married and has two teen-aged sons.
Ms Liu specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with disorders of the ocular motility with an emphasis on binocular vision and eye muscle misalignment. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Ms. Liu also enjoys interacting with the residents, medical students and orthoptic students. She is actively involved in national clinic trials and research with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), and is a member of The American Association of Certified Orthoptists (AACO), The American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), and The Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
