Lori Grover, OD, FAAO is a nationally recognized clinician and educator in the field of vision impairment and rehabilitation. She is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Grover is currently a PhD Candidate in Health Services Research and Policy, Department of Health Policy and Management at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she has earned Certificates in Health Economics and Public Health Informatics. She is the recipient of a five-year National Eye Institute/National Institutes of Health Mentored Clinical Scientist Training Grant award, and is the Principle Investigator studying team strategies for, and patient access to, vision rehabilitation care. Dr. Grover has collaborated with public health and health care professionals on projects including the Optometrists’ Tobacco Cessation Intervention Study, conjoint analysis methodology for patient populations with special needs, and measurement strategies for service provider assessments. She is leading the investigation of models of clinician decision making employed in vision rehabilitation care and pursuing the study of health information technology applications in vision rehabilitation, specifically the use of clinical decision support (CDS) systems in the treatment of chronic vision impairment.
Dr. Grover is a 1990 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and 1985 graduate of Albion College. She has established private and hospital-based practices and consulted for entities throughout the country. She is a Past Chair of the American Optometric Association Vision Rehabilitation Section (AOA VRS) Executive Council and currently serves as a member of the AOA Quality Improvement Committee and Evidence-Based Subcommittee. She was recently elected to serve as a Vision Care Section Councilor of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Grover is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Diplomate Candidate in Public Health and Environmental Vision, and a former member of the Arizona Optometric Association Board of Trustees. She is the current President of the Greater Baltimore Optometric Society of the Maryland Optometric Association, and has held leadership positions in five AOA state affiliate associations. Dr. Grover was selected to participate as a member of the 2009-10 inaugural cohort in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Leadership Program for Women Faculty. She was the 2004 ICO Alumna of the Year, 2006 recipient of the Don Aldrich Advocacy Award from the Mayor of Phoenix and Commission on Disability Issues, and elected to the National Academies of Practice in 2009. She remains an active consultant for state, local, third party and professional groups on vision rehabilitation policy. She is a frequent lecturer and international speaker. Dr. Grover shares her time between Baltimore and Scottsdale, AZ where she lives with her husband, Michael L. Grover, DO, Vice Chair of Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale, and daughter, Kate.
